Ambassador Malaya Reaffirms Ties with KL Mayor, Bats for Partnerships

21 May 2016—Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya reaffirmed the close ties between the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Kuala Lumpur City Government during his recent courtesy call on Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Hj. Mhd. Amin Nordin bin Abd. Aziz at the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur City Hall).  

During the call, Ambassador Malaya expressed the Embassy and the Filipino community’s gratitude to the Lord Mayor and the Kuala Lumpur City Government for their assistance and support for the Embassy’s programs. 

“The Embassy wishes to extend its gratitude to the Lord Mayor and the City Government for its support and assistance to the Philippine-Malaysia Independence Day Parade which has been held annually since June 2012.  We look forward to further partnerships between our two institutions in the future,” the Ambassador said. 

The Embassy and the KL City Government were also co-sponsors of the performance of the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus in October 2012 at the Panggung Bandaraya (Kuala Lumpur Cultural Center).

For his part, the Lord Mayor expressed his support to further cooperation with the Embassy, noting that the Kuala Lumpur City Government has been actively seeking partners for its programs and projects, particularly on culture. 

Datuk Seri Hj. Mhd. Amin Nordin was appointed as the 11th Mayor of Kuala Lumpur in July 2015.  Before his appointment, he was the City’s Director General.  

Rising from the ranks, he started his work at the DBKL in 1978 as an officer of the City Beautification Department, and served in various positions.  He was later promoted as Deputy Director General (Services) in December 2001, and later served as Deputy Director General (Development) in 2003, and then Deputy Director General (Socio-Economy) in 2011.  He became the Director General of the City in January 2014.
