8 May 2017 — The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reported today that it conducted a skills training workshop for the students, parents and volunteers of Stairway to Success Learning Center in Sandakan last April 28 to 30 at the learning center's grounds.

The training was held in cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the United Resource Speakers Group (URSG).

The URSG is a group of individuals who serve as resource speakers at the Embassy's Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center (MWORFC) on courses such as nursing, dressmaking, cooking, tailoring, accounting, cosmetology, reflexology, public speaking, martial arts and automotive, among others.

A total of 162 students and 127 parents and volunteers attended the training.

URSG trainers, Aileen Yap, Genalyn Medrano, Perlita De Sena, Carmencita Calawigan and Jacob Samson facilitated trainings on glass painting and colored fan-making for the children and CPR training (adult and infant), pandesal and puto cheese making, dressmaking and Shorini Kempo (Japanese martial arts) for the parents and volunteers.

Also present during the three-day workshop were Social Welfare Attache Bernard Bonina and Stairway to Success project manager Vicente Moran.

The training is in line with the Embassy's initiatives for its alternative learning centers (ALCs) to provide education and life skills for undocumented migrants in Sabah. END
