“Fiesta sa Embahada” Kicks Off PHL Embassy in KL’s Independence Day Celebration

23 May 2017—The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur kicked off its commemoration of the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a program for the Filipino community dubbed as "Fiesta sa Embahada" held on May 14 at the StarXpo Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Around 1,800 Filipino community members and Malaysian friends were present during the concert. The Federation of Filipino Associations in Malaysia (FFAM) member-organizations helped mobilize the community and provided support and assistance to the organizers.

The concert also featured talents from the Filipino community and ABS-CBN stars Shaina Magdayao, JC de Vera and Eric Nicolas. The event was held in cooperation with The Filipino Channel (TFC) and Philippine Airlines.

During his speech, Ambassador Charles Jose highlighted the many reasons why Filipinos should celebrate in view of the positive developments taking place in the country under the leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

"I challenge you to give back to your host country by being upstanding citizens and residents and showcase the best of the Filipino—excellence, integrity and hard work. At the same time, I hope that all Filipinos in Malaysia remain united and work together for everyone's betterment," the Ambassador said, noting that hundreds and thousands of Filipinos enjoy the hospitality of Malaysia by residing, working, doing business and studying in the country.

The program started with a parade of FFAM-member organizations, followed by performances from the FFAM-member organizations that included dance numbers from the Filipinos Residing in Malaysia and St. John's Tahanang Filipino, song numbers from Lady Gem and Aloysius Cornelius Susek and DZMM Global Pinoy Singing Idol-Malaysia champion Yazmin Aziz, and a martial arts exhibition from the FFAM marshalls.

Before the event, participants also had the chance to participate in mini-games and win prizes from the sponsors' booths. There was also a raffle draw where PAL gave out round trip economy class and business class tickets to lucky winners. END
